Commemorating the landing of the first canal boat, the Monticello, at Port Roscoe on August 21, 1830. Live bluegrass, jazz and Appalachian folk music will welcome visitors as they enter quaint Roscoe Village, and with dozens of crafters, shops and plenty of delicious food, they won’t want to leave. Mule-drawn canal boat rides, parades and a fiddle competition round out this fun, family friendly festival. Roscoe Village will celebrate the fall season with its Annual Apple Butter Stirrin' Festival. This fun-filled three-day event will feature live musical entertainment and more than 130 exhibitors displaying crafts and original creations of all kinds. Contests play a major role in the festival - - - the traditional hog-calling contest is scheduled for Saturday afternoon, while pie-baking and pumpkin-decorating contests are set for Sunday. The aroma of apple butter simmering over an open fire adds to the enjoyment! Festival activities start at 10 a.m. on each of the three days, and continue until 6 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and 5 p.m. on Sunday. And if stories of ghosts and the supernatural interest you, sign up for the "Spirit of Roscoe" tour that will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday evenings.
